Charred brush covered the Verdugo Mountains on Thursday, one day

after a 752-acre fire was fully contained. The fire, which was

battled by more than 600 firefighters and water-carrying helicopters

and airplanes, began about 11:45 a.m. Monday about 3/4 of a mile up

a service road in Brand Park. Residents were ordered to temporarily

evacuate 33 homes along Thurber Street in Glendale and Via Alta in

Burbank, but no structures were lost. Five firefighters and a police

officer suffered minor injuries in connection with the fire. Brand

Library reopened on Thursday, three days after Glendale Fire

officials took over the grounds for their incident command post. The

fire is considered suspicious in origin. Anyone with information is

asked to call the department’s arson hotline at 548-4805.
