Man killed in driveway on E. Acacia Avenue

An 86-year-old man died of internal injuries Tuesday after he was hit
by a car and fell under it, police said.
Artashes Tatevosyan, of Glendale, was taken to Glendale Memorial
Hospital, where he died at 2:30 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Kirk
Palmer said.
Tatevosyan was pushing a shopping cart with recyclables in it when
he crossed a driveway in the 1300 block of East Acacia Avenue.
Marguerite Aboyan, 68, was backing her 1988 Toyota sedan out the
driveway of her home at that time and the back of the car hit
Tatevosyan, Palmer said. Apparently unaware of him, she continued
backing up, pushing Tatevosyan across the street.
“He’s trying to fend it off and apparently falls under the car and
it rolls over him,” Palmer said, adding that a passenger was in the
Toyota at the time.
The incident occurred about 1 p.m.
“Quite frankly, it appears to be just a tragic accident,” Palmer
said.
He also said it underscores the importance of pedestrian safety.
“You have to be aware of your surroundings,” he said. “Pedestrians
need to be as defensive as drivers need to be in terms of
anticipating potential hazards.”
