Local bank named business of year

Glendale-based Americas United Bank has been named “Business of the Year” by the Glendale Latino Assn.

The bank will be presented with the honor at an Awards Luncheon on Friday at the La Cañada Country Club.

Americas United Bank has been actively involved with the Glendale Latino Assn. since the bank’s inception in November 2006, the association said.

The organization will also honor “Man of the Year” Michael Escalante, superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District, and “Woman of the Year” Betty Porto, co-owner of Porto’s Bakery.

Dodge dealership gets top rating

Glendale Dodge reclaimed its Five Star company rank at an awards ceremony last week, two years after the local dealership lost its fifth star, dealership officials said.

The rank is given by the company to local dealers that, through customer surveys, amass a reputation for great customer service and maintain monthly sales goals, said Ed Bates, Glendale Dodge’s coordinator of the Five Star system.

“It also means that you have all of your employees trained at a Five Star level,” he said.

The Five Star ranking is re-evaluated on an annual basis, he said.
