On Saturday morning, more than 28 merchants in the Montrose Shopping Park will have purple footprints painted on their store windows and purple ribbons tied on the trees along Honolulu Avenue by volunteers from the Foothills Relay For Life, Girl Scouts, and local students. “Paint The Town Purple” is an event sponsored by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness of the 2008 Foothills Relay For Life, a 24-hour walk being held May 17 and 18 at Clark Magnet High School in La Crescenta.

Represented in the walk will be teams from businesses, schools, churches and organizations from the communities of La Crescenta, La Cañada, Montrose, North Glendale, Sunland and Tujunga. Dalles Raines, KABC meteorologist, will be the Grand Marshall, and State Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, a La Cañada resident, will be the Honorary Grand Marshall for the event.

Foothills Relay For Life will have an information booth at the Montrose 95th Birthday Celebration on Sunday, March 2. For further information regarding Paint The Town Purple, or about Relay, contact Chris Waldheim at (818) 247-8778 ext. 223, or go to www.FoothillsRelayForLife.com.
