Grant gives boost to Fire Department

The Glendale Fire Department received a $25,000 grant from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies on Wednesday, which will be used to procure arson investigation equipment.

Fireman’s Fund, which provides property and casualty insurance, supplied the grant as a part of its Heritage program, which is designed to provide local fire departments with equipment, training and educational tools.

Glendale fire officials plan to use their grant money to obtain 46 specialized items — including laps, detectors and Global Positioning System devices — that will assist in the investigation, arrest and prosecution of arsonists.

The Burbank and Pasadena fire departments also received $25,000 each in grant funds, which will go toward rescue gear and other equipment.
