Falcons to host La Serna on Tuesday

In a CIF Southern Section Division III quarterfinal softball game on Friday, La Serna defeated Beckman, 2-0.

La Serna will now travel to face host Crescenta Valley, the No. 1 seed, on Tuesday, likely at 3:15 p.m.

The Falcons beat Santa Monica, 3-0, on Thursday, but La Serna’s game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Crescenta Valley would have gone on the road had Beckman won, but won a pre-game coinflip against La Serna.

Soccer with an international flavor

The “Golden Oldies Soccer Club,” featuring a veteran group of European soccer players, will meet the “Media Soccer Stars,” featuring a group of players from Spanish Television Networks, in a soccer match at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Glendale Sports Complex, 2200 Fern Lane, Glendale.

AYSO program to host local tourney

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 88 will host the fourth annual Leo Nedeff Memorial Tournament. The event will be held May 30-June 1 at the Glendale Sports Complex and at other local venues.

The tournament honors Nedeff, who was one of the founders of Region 88 and dedicated almost thirty years to making it a premier youth sports organization.

Glendale teams will be joined by more than 90 teams from across Southern California to compete in age groups ranging from Under 10 to Under 19 starting at 7 p.m. May 30 with Under 16 and Under 19 Boys’ and Girls’ games at the Sports Complex and Sartoris Field at Glendale Community College.

Games for all divisions will start at 8 a.m. May 31 at the Glendale Sports Complex, Crescenta Valley High, Clark Magnet and Wilson Middle schools and Glendale Community College.

Games on June 1 will also start at 8 a.m. and conclude with the championship matches starting in the afternoon for most age groups at the Sports Complex. Trophies will be awarded to the first through fourth place teams.

Proceeds from the tournament will be added to Region 88’s field development fund.
