Soccer/basketball sign-ups taking place

The Crescenta-Cañada YMCA is conducting sign-ups through Sept. 19 for fall indoor soccer and basketball.

The events are geared for those in grades first through eighth. A skills clinic will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 20. Contests will begin Oct 11.

High school sports officials wanted

The San Gabriel Valley Football Officials Assn. is seeking those interested in working with local high school athletes.

The organization will provide the training in a series of seven-to-eight two-hour classes held once a week throughout September and October.

Upon being certified, the officials are offered football games that coincide with their schedule.

Local baseball team to be formed

The La Crescenta Crush, a kid pitch 9-and-under tournament baseball team, is looking for All-Star and championship team players from the area to participate in several tournaments in Southern California in the fall.

Interested players must be 9 or younger as of April 30, 2009 and willing to travel to tournament games on the weekends once per month.
