Open-pit mining lecture on Saturday

Hakob Sanasaryan, president of the Greens Union of Armenia, will lecture at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Glendale Public Library, at 222 E. Harvard St.

He will be discussing the threats of open-pit mining in Armenia’s Teghut forest Saturday and environmental issues of the country’s Lake Sevan on Sunday.

‘Freedom of Speech’ show at theater

Eliza Jane Schneider, star of the one-woman show “Freedom of Speech,” will make a return to the Sidewalk Studio Theater at 8 p.m. today.

Known best as the voice of nearly every female character on “South Park,” Schneider began her study of American regional dialects while completing her senior thesis in the Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA.

Applying her research, Schneider uses her vocal skills to depict more than 30 Americans in “Freedom of Speech.” The show will have other performances scattered through Nov. 28. The Sidewalk Studio Theater is at 4150 Riverside Drive, Burbank.

New exhibit opening at park’s museum

The Doctors House Museum will have a grand opening of its exhibit “A Century of Presidential Elections — 1908/2008” at 2 p.m. Sunday at 1801 W. Mountain Ave. in Brand Park.

There will be stump speeches made by the four candidates — William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bryan, Barack Obama and John McCain — and visitors will cast a mock ballot for this year’s election using equipment from the Los Angeles County Registrar’s office.
