Geestman ‘Evening with the Stars’

The Desi Geestman Foundation has a new event this year described as glamorous and heartwarming. The Evening with the Stars Celebrity Gala begins with a pre-event champagne reception for VIP ticket holders and sponsors with the main event at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The event will allow guests an opportunity to meet, mingle and dine with some of the most popular stars of daytime television from ABC, NBC, CBS and SoapNet. Funds raised at this event will go to support the foundation in its continuing mission to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families by providing emotional and financial support.

Scholl Canyon Landfill Tour

Anyone curious as to where their garbage goes after they throw it away is invited to go on a community tour of Scholl Canyon Landfill and discover the fascinating journey trash takes.

The event is sponsored by Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, GreenTeam and Coalition for a Green Glendale. The tour will meet at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 25 in front of the Glendale Civic Center at 141 N. Glendale Ave. Parking will be available at the city lot on Broadway. Guests will board a bus that will leave at 10 a.m. and return by noon. The tour is free; older children are welcome to attend.
