City Hall to host annual tree lighting

The city will host its outdoor 24th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7 tonight at City Hall.

The event will feature music from the Balboa Elementary School Tunesmiths and the Crescenta Valley High School Charismatics Chamber Choir.

People in attendance will be treated to hot chocolate and candy canes as they watch the Christmas tree lighting.

Santa Claus also is expected to drop by City Hall, at 613 E. Broadway, for the ceremony.

Parking is available inside the Civic Center Parking Structure.

Annual tree festival coming up Sunday

The Assistance League of Glendale will present its 33rd annual Festival of Trees on Sunday in the ballroom of the Burbank Airport Marriott Convention Center.

The event begins at 10 a.m., with a silent auction, followed by the opening of the decorated ballroom.

Each guest can purchase tickets for a chance to win one of the Christmas trees or other items that will be displayed around the room.

The holiday luncheon will be served at noon, with entertainment provided by the Crescenta Valley High School Jazz Band.

All proceeds go to support the eight philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Glendale, which include Foster Backpacks, Baby Bundles, Senior Neighborhood Fellowship, SAT classes, Authors and Illustrators, Vocational Training, Operation School Bell, as well as scholarships to local students.
