The Crescenta Valley girls’ basketball team won both their games this past week to secure a second-place finish in the Pacific League. CV (18-8, 10-3) defeated Burbank, 52-47, in overtime Tuesday after holding off Burroughs, 50-48, last Friday.

Cassie Pappas scored 25 points and collected seven rebounds vs Burbank. The junior guard had nine of her team’s 11 points in overtime after the score was tied, 41-41, at the end of regulation. Pappas had 18 points and nine rebounds against Burroughs.

“We have been in that position many times this season and come through,” said Falcons Head Coach Jason Perez. “It shows their maturity as a team under pressure.”

Jen Aydin scored nine points vs Burbank. It was Aydin’s three-point shot with under a minute remaining that gave the Falcons the lead for good vs Burroughs. Aydin finished with 11 points. Melanie Samvalian and Melanie Minas each scored eight points over Burroughs.

CV has one game remaining in league play vs Arcadia. The Falcons have qualified as the Pacific League’s No. 2 team in the upcoming CIF playoffs. Pacific league champ Muir (13-0) is the league’s No. 1 seed.
