Hoover High School PTSA scholarships for graduating high school seniors recognize students for volunteer service in the school and community. Deadline to apply is April 10. There is no grade-point-average requirement. Students should ask their counselors for an application.

Senior counselor Rose Samore will be the speaker at the Hoover PTSA Assn. meeting at 7 p.m. March 10 in room 401 at Hoover.

She will give parents an overview of the three state college systems — community college, California State University and University of California as well as private colleges and other requirements. The spring sports season started Monday. The sports played this spring are boys’/girls’ swim, boys’/girls’ track and field, girls’ softball, boys’ baseball, boys’ tennis, and boys’ volleyball.

Although Advanced Placement testing is in May, it’s not too early to start talking about it. Forms have been sent to students, and registration is open. All students who take AP courses are encouraged to take the test. Students who score 3 or above can get a head start in college.
