Ten Years Ago

Three men armed with handguns robbed Montrose Jewelers of an undisclosed amount of jewelry during a mid-morning robbery. The suspects marched five employees into a backroom and ordered them onto the ground before returning to the showroom to smash display cases and grab merchandise. No customers were in the shop at the time the crime was being committed and no injuries were reported.

Twenty Years Ago

Several residents of La Crescenta Manor, an apartment building on Montrose Avenue, were mounting a protest of what they considered a lack of maintenance of the facility. Tenants posted signs on their balconies decrying what they described as poor management.

Thirty Years Ago

Lady Jane’s restaurant on Honolulu Avenue announced its dinner specials in March 1979: Sundays and Mondays, prime rib, $6.95; Tuesdays, pork chops, $4.95; Wednesdays, New York pepper steak, $6.25; and Thursdays, filet mignon, $5.95. All meals included a baked potato, vegetables, hot breads and a visit to the salad bar.

To assist the work of Project Uplift in Pasadena, the Crescenta-Cañada Human Relations Council presented a $857 check to Henry Dock, director of Project Uplift.

Fifty Years Ago

Eugene P. Crawford of La Crescenta won a round-trip to Europe via TWA Jetstream Polar Flight in a drawing held in conjunction with Ralphs’ 86th birthday celebration. Another local prize winner in the Ralphs promotion was Mrs. H. Gellespie of Montrose, who was given a Las Vegas holiday for two at the Sahara.
