Zarian to focus on nonprofit

Rio Ray, captain of the Salvation Army Glendale Corps, is scheduled to appear live Thursday on “The Larry Zarian Show” to discuss the effects of the recession on his organization’s services.

The army’s board chairwoman, Cathy Zappala, will also appear on the show to talk about how the economic downturn has affected the nonprofit’s ability to provide help amid an increase in demand for services that has hit all social service providers.

Nonprofits throughout Glendale have reported increased demand from low-income residents for services.

Mixer to laud election winners

The Filipino-American Business Assn. of Glendale will host its business mixer and post-election celebration today, honoring a host of public officials.

Judy Chu, vice chair of the California Board of Equalization, will attend the event, along with the slate of endorsed city candidates elected to office April 7.

The event will be held at Verdugo Hills Country Club, located at 400 W. Glenoaks Blvd., from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The party will feature two musical acts, a dinner and a raffle giveaway.

Attendance is $20 for group members and $40 for others.
