Foothill League registration set

The Foothill Little League will have several registration dates pertaining to the upcoming season.

Registration is geared for those ages 5-14.

The first registration session will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 12 at Babe Herman Field. The next will run from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 9 at Babe Herman Field.

Late registration and tryouts will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 16 at Babe Herman Field.

Annual CV Baseball Camp

The 12th annual Crescenta Valley Baseball Camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 28-29 at Stengel Field.

The event will be spearheaded by Crescenta Valley High baseball Coach Phil Torres and his coaching staff.

The event is geared for those in grades three through eight. The cost is $75 per person.

Glendale college Baseball Camp

The Glendale Community College baseball coaching staff will instruct children and adults on the proper mechanics in batting, fielding, pitching and catching.

Sessions can be individual or in groups up to four for ages 8 and above. The camp consists of three 90-minute sessions per week.

2010 GCC Athletic Hall of Fame

The ninth annual Glendale Community College Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held March 6 at the college’s J. Walter Smith Student Center, 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale.

Rene Gonzalez, Karoline Tomicich, Ralph Turner, Bill and Ethel Gallagher, Ron Palmer and the 1976 men’s cross-country team will be inducted.

Gonzalez played baseball at Glendale college from 1980-81 before moving on to Cal State Los Angeles. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos and played 13 Major League seasons.

Tomicich played women’s tennis in 1999 and 2001, earning All-American honors in singles and doubles.

Turner excelled in track and field, setting the college’s mark in the 200-meter race in 1963. The record still stands.

The Gallagher’s have been supporters of the Glendale college for more than 40 years and had all seven of their children attend the school.

Palmer competed on the men’s tennis team and ran track and field in the 1940s before becoming a badminton player in the 1950s while representing the United States in the Thomas Cup.

The 1976 men’s cross-country squad won the Southern California and state championship under Coach Tom McMurray.

Water polo players being sought

A Santa Clarita Valley-based age group water polo club is seeking boys and girls between the ages of 11-13.

The club is run by Crescenta Valley High School girls’ Athletic Director Pete Loporchio.
