Hoover High School presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s, “The Sound of Music!” Mark your calendars now for the 7 p.m. shows March 5 to 8, with matinee performances at 1 p.m. March 6 and 7. Performances will be in the Hoover Auditorium, with plenty of local parking.

Hoover will host the Rappin Mathematician, Alex Kajitani, the 2009 California Teacher of the Year, at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Hoover Library. All are welcome to come and hear about his creative and successful approach to teaching algebra.

Hoover will host a Glendale Unified School District informational meeting about the status of the state budget, the funding of education and its effect on the district and schools at 7 p.m. March 4 in the auditorium.

Seniors, look for information in the daily bulletin about PTSA scholarships. Applications will be available soon in the counseling office. For the latest Hoover news, visit www.hooverhs.org.

Toll Middle School

Join the Toll PTSA for its next Assn. Meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Toll Auditorium. Hear what the Toll PTSA is doing to help all students at Toll. This meeting will also feature a presentation on Hoover High School. Special thanks to Janet Siraki, Toll Parents On Patrol coordinator, and all the parents who continue to help POPs every day at lunch.

Balboa Elementary

Balboa PTA will host its annual Founders Day and Honorary Service Awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the auditorium. Refreshments will be served, and child care provided.

The Everybody Loves Reading event will be at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at Balboa. Individuals from the community come to Balboa for this event and read their favorite children’s book to students, emphasizing the importance of reading in their lives. Many thanks go to Lisa Deyell and Sara Khosravi for chairing both these events.

Franklin Elementary

The Franklin PTA will host a meeting at 6:30 tonight in the auditorium featuring a representative from the Glendale City Credit Union speaking about “Parent/Children Money Matters.” The meeting will be followed by a Ben Franklin Elementary Foundation meeting.

The PTA will host its first Mother-Daughter Tea Party — “Alice in Wonderland” — from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the auditorium. Tickets are $7.50 per person and should be bought in advance.

The recently formed Ben Franklin Elementary Foundation had its first fundraiser, Yardsalepaloozah, earning more than $2,000. The foundation board voted to approve two grants from the funds raised that will expand the Art Class and Garden Club after-school enrichment programs at Franklin.

Jefferson Elementary

The Jefferson PTA will have an executive board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the school’s conference room. The PTA will celebrate Founders Day at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 25 in the auditorium.

Mark Keppel Elementary

The Mark Keppel PTA will host its Annual Founders Day Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the school cafeteria. This year the theme is “Elegance and Excellence.” If you were invited to attend, you can buy tickets for $10 each at the school office.

Keppel will honor people from the community as well as select teachers and parents who’ve gone above and beyond to help the school and the community.
