Glendale City Council Meeting Wrap-Up

Workforce funding

The City Council on Tuesday approved an allocation of more than $1 million in federal funding to the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board to go to the Glendale Youth Alliance for youth employment programs.

The Glendale Youth Alliance will receive about $350,000 in federal workforce funding to provide annual youth employment services to at least 72 local students and 59 young people not enrolled in school. The organization will also receive $671,000 in federal funding for its annual summer employment program for 300 local youths.

Emergency data backup

The City Council approved an agreement with Burbank to share floor space for the installation of backup storage and Internet servers.

Under the agreement, Glendale will pay Burbank for upgrades to the Burbank Data Center in order to make the sharing possible. Burbank will pay for electricity used by Glendale hardware at the site.

The installation will allow Glendale to back up critical systems so that they can be restored in case of emergency, and is less expensive than using a different offsite location.
