Eugene Bachmeier

BACHMEIER, Eugene was born January 11, 1918. He passed away at the age of 92 on December 2, 2010 in Pasadena, CA. He was born in Albany, NY and attended Christian Brothers Academy from 1931-1936. In 1941, Eugene was drafted into the U.S. Army Aircorp. He was stationed at Turner Field in Albany, Georgia and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Before his discharge in 1945, he received several decorations and citations including a good conduct medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and a Victory Medal. After leaving the Army in 1945, he attended Sienna College in Loudonville, NY and graduated Cum Laude in 1952 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. After graduating, he was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1953 and worked as a special agent. In 1969, he moved to La Canada, CA and continued to work as special agent for the U.S. Treasury Department. He retired from the department in 1976 and received the Albert Galletin Award for meritorious public service.

Upon his retirement, he remained active in the community volunteering for Verdugo Hills Hospital and Descanso Gardens among other organizations. Eugene stayed active by dancing with the Kaddlehoppers and acting with the La Canada Players, and traveled extensively both in the states and abroad. Eugene is survived by his wife Jean of 57 years; children Carol Ann and Susan; two grandchildren Jennifer and John and one great grandson Charles. Eugene was extremely committed to his faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher at his parish in La Canada, CA. Eugene will be remembered for his smile and great sense of humor. Vigil service will be Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 pm at Cabot & Sons Chapel, 27 Chestnut St. Pasadena, CA 91103. Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 10 at 10:00 am at St. Bede the Venerable Church 215 Foothill Blvd. La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011.
