Glendale police are searching for an armed gunman who made off with a large amount of cash Sunday night after robbing a Glendale Avenue liquor store Sunday night, officials said.

The gunman entered the Best Liquor Meat & Deli about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and demanded cash from the store’s clerk, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Police K-9 dogs and a helicopter were brought in to search the area around the store, but they didn’t find him, he said.

Lorenz said the gunman likely broke through the police perimeter.

The gunman was described as 5 foot 10 inches tall with a thin build. He carried a black bag and wore a gray-hooded sweatshirt with black pants, bandana and shoes.

His weapon was described as a black semi-automatic handgun, Lorenz said.

Anyone with details about the robbery is asked to call the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers’ tip line at (800) 222-TIPS.
