Kathleen Joan Murphy passed away on January 12, 2010 from complications of asthma. Kathleen was born November 29, 1955 in San Luis Obispo but grew up in La Crescenta and graduated from Crescenta Valley High School in 1973. Kathleen led a life of advocacy on behalf of the nation’s children by speaking on their behalf in Sacramento and on local television, training advocates and educating the public on issues that affect children from early interventions, quality child care, health care reform and education. It was her life’s work both as a career and as a volunteer. Kathleen enjoyed many years in the bay area completing BA degree from Cal State East Bay and a masters from the University of San Francisco. She returned to the Glendale area to be close to family, now living in Stevenson Ranch. She is preceded in death by her mother, Carol Swan Murphy and nephew Blaine Chambers. She is survived by her father and stepmother, George and Dorothy Murphy of Havasu Arizona; her aunt, Joan Swan; her brother Richard Murphy and wife Lucia Coulter; her sister and brother-in-law Pat and Robert Chambers, and their children Taylor, Kelsey and Riley.

Services will be held at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Jan 23, 2011 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials be sent to Ventura Association for the Education of Young Children where a scholarship for Master Students will be established in Kathleen’s name.
