Glendale park gets state honor

Heritage Garden park in Glendale, which re-used a vacant Craftsman home on the half-acre plot for community services, received a state honor for its design and use.

In recognizing the park, the California Park & Recreation Society — a membership organization — gave high scores to the project’s design quality and effectiveness in strengthening “community image and sense of place, promoting health and wellness, fostering human development, increasing cultural unity and promoting participation in recreational experiences,” according to an announcement from the city on Tuesday.

The park is located at Cedar and Harvard Streets in South Glendale.

City officials will accept the honor at a ceremony in March.
