Power shut down at Galleria

Power was down for more than hour Wednesday in a portion of the Glendale Galleria after a circuit breaker blew out, officials said.

Glendale firefighters arrived to the Galleria just after 11 a.m. after smoke from the circuit filled an electrical room near Nordstrom, Capt. Stuart Stefani said.

No customers were affected by the outage or smoke, he said. No one was evacuated from the mall.

Transient ordered to steer clear

A homeless man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly punched an assistant manager at Barnes & Noble in the face, police said Wednesday.

Police had been searching for Daryll Worrell after they obtained a restraining order against him for allegedly harassing patrons of the Glendale Public Library on Harvard Street and at City Hall, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

But police were able to serve the restraining order when they got a call about him allegedly punching an assistant manager of Barnes & Noble twice in the face during an argument outside of In-N-Out Burger on Brand Boulevard.

Barnes & Noble employees asked Worrell last year to stay away from the store, which is in the Americana at Brand, after allegedly causing disturbances, Lorenz said.

“It’s obvious he has not been able to control his behavior,” he added.

The city decided to obtain a restraining against Worrell after he allegedly punched a library employee and harassed several patrons, he said.

Worrell often pleaded with patrons for cigarettes and money from patrons, but when he was declined, he became angry and violent, Lorenz added.

Air-soft gun found at Glendale High School

A soft-air handgun found Wednesday morning at Glendale High School was secured and removed from the premises without incident, Glendale Unified spokesperson Elena Heimerl said.

A group of the Glendale High School students spotted what appeared to be a handgun on the ground behind the tennis courts, Heimerl said. The immediately alerted their teacher, who then alerted the school administration. Officials determined it was an air-soft pellet gun. An investigation is ongoing.

At no time was the gun brandished or used in a threatening manner, Heimerl said.
