Jean Denton
With loving memories, the family of Jean Denton announce her passing on March 19, 2011.
Jean, wife, mother and Grammy was born on December 15, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Maxwell and Nancy Gibler. She was the baby of six children and was the last survivor of all of her siblings.
On June 24, 1955, she married Thomas Jefferson Denton and together they raised their four children in Glendale, California.
Jean mostly worked in the home, raising her 4 children. She also completely remodeled their 1920’s vintage Spanish home, refinishing floors, painting and upgrading the interior and exterior of the home. She sewed much of the children’s clothing, entertained and helped Tom in the family jewelry/award business. Jean and Tom traveled to Europe and extensively through the U. S., despite Jean’s strong dislike for flying. She enjoyed bridge, gardening, her dogs - Billy and Elsa, but mostly had a passion for keeping up with her 11 grandchildren. Grammy was never short on advice for all her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom, her four children, Laura (Carl), Julie (Darwin), Kelly (Gunnar) and TJ (Barbara) and her 11 grandchildren -- Tyler, Amanda, Andrew, Will, Katie, Emily, Shelby, Elizabeth, Garth, Thomas and Laura.
Jean was a valiant fighter, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer seven and one-half years prior to her passing. Even her oncologist was amazed by her strength. He put her picture on the cover of one of the current medical periodicals, which made her quite proud. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
A memorial service for Jean will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Glendale, California with a gathering immediately following at The Tam O’Shanter Restaurant (a family favorite).
