Ruth Mae Hartman, 97, passed away peacefully March 27, at Meadow View Manor.
Born in Milburn, Ill., April 23, 1913, Ruth began nursing training in Chicago, Ill., and joined the US Navy Nurse Corp, where she met and married Fred B. Hartman., who at the time was an Ensign in the US Navy. Settling in Glendale, Calif., Mr. Hartman was a police officer, FBI graduate and Professional Investigator and Ruth was a RN in Glendale for 45 years.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, painting, bowling, bingo, and hiking. She was active in Girl Scouts, WAC and the Pioneer Club of Glendale, Calif. Ruth was a resident of Glendale for 60 years and in 1993 she was recognized by the Mayor for leadership as president for many years of the Glendale Women’s Athletic Club.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Fred Hartman, 1974, of Glendale, Calif; daughter Barbara Schneider, 2005, of Nevada City, Calif; parents Frank and Corena Edwards of Milburn, Ill.; brother, John; and sister Marion of Libertyville, Ill.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Jeanne Hartman of Grass Valley, Calif., Patricia Virgallito of Concord, Calif.; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at San Fernando Mission Cemetery of Glendale, Calif. in April. Funeral arrangements are being made through Hooper and Weaver of Grass Valley, Calif.
