PTA News: Parent support group has final meetings

Glendale Unified School District and the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition (CVDAPC) are sponsoring a confidential support group for all parents of middle and high school students in the Crescenta Valley. Please join Pam Erdman, licensed marriage, family and child (teens included) therapist, for her weekly presentations and discussions on parenting teens.

The final two sessions of the year will be held at the Crescenta Cañada Family YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge. The next meeting is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, and the topic is “How to minimize teen manipulation.” The final session is at 7:15 p.m. June 7 and the topic is “Motivation.” More information is available by visiting www.cvyouthsupport.com.

Valley View Elementary

Congratulations to the 2011-2012 PTA board members. They are Myra Goethals, president; Elizabeth Neskovska, executive vice president; Karen Bryer, first vice president; Char Campanella, second vice president; Shelby Thamasian, third vice president; Jodi Fitzgibbons, recording secretary; Tina Lovato, corresponding secretary; Christine Aroyan, treasurer; Lydia Park, auditor; Robin Pincini, historian; and Kathy Barnett, parliamentarian.

The PTA meeting followed by the Talent Show starts at 6:30 p.m. June 9 in the auditorium.

Mountain Avenue Elementary

The annual PTA meeting “Mt Ave 101” is at 6:30 p.m. June 2 in the auditorium where teachers from each grade will provide parents with an overview of their child’s incoming fall grade.

PTA sponsors “Art Night” from 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 in the auditorium. More than 500 pieces of student artwork in all mediums will be displayed. There will be live music and refreshments.

Dunsmore Elementary

The PTA installation dinner is at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Joselito’s Mexican Restaurant, 2345 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. Welcome to new board members Lorraine Ang, Pam Bayard, Tracy Brown, Stacy Chang, Paulla Ewoldsen, Sally Foote, Shannon Graves, Heidi Hause, Kathy Housik, Armine Issaghoulian, Suzette Melko and Janine Sabin.

“The Big Top at Dunsmore, the Greatest School on Earth” is the theme for this year’s carnival chaired by Amanda Granier. The event will be from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 3 on the playground.

La Crescenta Elementary

Enjoy an evening of music as the La Crescenta Elementary School Orchestra performs at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium. Admission is free.

Sixth grade promotion is at 11 a.m. June 16 in the auditorium. The historic bell on the front lawn will be rung at the end of the ceremony.

Lincoln Elementary

Tonight is Open House and the Silent Auction starting at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

The 31st annual Lincoln 500 is Friday. The playground will be transformed into The Great Race Place for this multi-lap tricycle race around the track.

Crescenta Valley High

Senior Prom is on Saturday after which Prom Plus will host its annual post-prom event at the Crescenta Cañada Family YMCA. Donations and volunteers are still being solicited.
