Dairy wagon is on the mooove

Rich Jessup is looking for a buyer for a dairy wagon once used on his grandfather’s Glendale dairy farm.

Jessup Certified Farms had 1,500 cows on its 27 acres through 1975. Jessup’s grandfather bought the land in 1919 with a single $10 gold coin.

“He was one of the biggest cattlemen in the West,” Jessup said.

Jessup, 56, of Glendale, said the wagon has spent the last 30 years on his uncle’s Gilroy ranch.

Made in the early 1900s, the wagon could be pulled by a single horse.

Often used for parades, Jessup said he offered the wagon to the Glendale and Burbank historical societies, but they lacked the space to store it.

A Southern California dairy farm and a San Fernando Valley prop house have expressed interest, but Jessup said he may turn to EBay. Jessup estimates that it could sell for $500 to $1500.

He plans to donate the money to a Glendale charity.

“Glendale supported the dairy so we thought we’d do something back,” he said. “I’m not sure what yet, but something my grandfather would approve of.”
