The unemployment rates in Burbank and Glendale worsened slightly in May, eroding gains made the month before, according to the latest jobs report released Friday.

In Burbank, the jobless rate increased slightly to 9.7% in May from 9.6% in April, according to the California Economic Development Department. In Glendale, the rate rose by the same tenth of a percent in May to 10.4%.

The rates went against the statewide drop over the same period from 11.8% to 11.7%, although California still shed 29,200 jobs — a reversal for a state whose economy had been on the mend.

In La Crescenta, the unemployment rate also increased slightly from 5.8% to 5.9%. And in La Cañada Flintridge, the rate held steady at 4.6%.
