Your weekend agenda: Boogie Knights and the Spazmatics concert at Starlight Bowl

Two goofy but groovy bands will rock out under the night sky at Starlight Bowl on Saturday, giving Burbank residents a blast from the past.

Donning belbottoms, afros and other disco swag, Boogie Knights will play covers from the swinging 70s. They'll be followed by the Spazmatics, who will resurrect 80s power ballads for the crowd.

The Spazmatics' gang of super-nerds formed as a result of a wager that was placed on a String Theory debate. When high school teacher Kevin Stigwood of Alta Dena High in Thousand Oaks lost, he was forced to perform "She Blinded me with Science." With no musical experience, Stigwood gathered a group of ragtag performers to join him, and thus the Spazmatics were formed. They've been going strong ever since.

Both bands are part of what the Los Angeles Times in 2003 called "one in a long line of uber-groups conceived of by the Wizard of Odds, a.k.a. Perfect World Entertainment manager Jamie Brown."

So pack up your pocket protectors and a picnic, and see what all the fuss is about.

Tickets are only $10 for adults and $6 for kids ages 3-12 and seniors, and can be purchased online, or at the door for an additional $2. Parking is $8.
