John Peter Wickel Jr., 85, passed on May 3, 2011. Born and raised in New York, John graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in Engineering. He and Agnes Ream, also a New Yorker were married and had two children. His successful career in engineering took the young family around the globe before settling in the foothills of La Canada as President of Designed Facilities where he built the family home and resided for over 20 years. As a member of La Canada Presbyterian Church, he served many leadership positions over a 50 year period, in addition to outstanding service with “The Clipper Club”. John owned some motel properties including one in Turlock, CA. After 42 years of marriage, John’s wife passed away. He married a family friend, Ruth, to enjoy his golden years as a humanitarian with annual trips to Mississippi with Habitat for Humanity and various contributions to many other charities and endeavors. John had a passion for building, traveling, antique cars, and photography with four generations as his favorite subjects. John is survived by his wife of 19 years, Ruth Nordquist, daughter Linda Naviaux, son Gary Wickel, five grandchildren & five great-grandchildren, by whom he was fondly known as “Pop-Pop”.
