Joseph Janus of Burbank passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 89.

Joe Janus was born in Connecticut, son of Michael and Helena (Jarema) Janus, who emigrated from Poland in the early 1900’s. He served as a submariner (RM2c) in the Pacific during WW2 aboard the USS Plunger and the USS Halibut on four war patrols.

He and his family moved to California in 1959. A master carpenter and construction superintendent until his retirement in 1984, he enjoyed gardening, reading and lapidary.

Mr. Janus is survived by his wife, Viola; a son, Paul and his wife Linda; and two daughters, Sally and Kathy, all of Burbank; two sisters, Irene Broderick and Anne Stevens of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
