Edward Royal Danks

(August 7, 1931 – August 29, 2011)

Rev. Edward Royal Danks, 80, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Burbank, was called home to his Lord on August 29, 2011 in Concord, North Carolina. He ministered in Burbank from 1963 to 1977. Rev. Danks was a graduate of Houghton College in New York and Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey.

He served as Moderator of the Presbytery of San Fernando in 1970. Following his service in Burbank, Rev. Danks was called to Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT where he served until his retirement in 1996. In retirement he served as a volunteer missionary in Kenya, East Africa; as seasonal pastor at St. Timothy’s Chapel in Montana; and as pastor-in-residence at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. In Kenya, where he served for five years, he taught at the Presbyterian Seminary in Kikuyu and developed the seminary library.

Rev. Danks is survived by his wife, Coreen; a son, Edward Stephen; a daughter, Debra Lynn Annin (Scott); his brothers, Howard and Richard; a sister, Marilyn Edleston; six grandsons, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter. His first wife, Barbara, and a son, Tom, predeceased him.

Memorial services are being held in North Carolina and Connecticut. In California, a memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Olive Avenue, Burbank, on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
