Foothill Freeway shut down at rush hour

The Foothill (210) Freeway was briefly shut down Monday evening as authorities investigated a package left on a La Cresenta overpass.

The freeway was shut down in both directions for approximately 10 minutes, snarling traffic for miles as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a briefcase on the Rosemont Avenue bridge. No homes were evacuated, though Rosemont Avenue, between Altura and Mayfield avenues, was also shut down.

A bomb squad robot normally experienced a malfunction, said Lt. Angela Shepard, so deputies put on protective gear to check out the package.

The briefcase, which was not destroyed, was empty and booked for evidence, she said.
