Fire danger high as thunderstorms roll through

Share

Weather officials are warning that scattered thunderstorms today could spark wildfires in the hills surrounding the L.A. Basin.

A red flag warning is in effect until 11 p.m. tonight as scattered thunderstorms could produce dry lightning strikes. Combined with gusty winds and dry vegetation, the lightning “could create extreme fire danger and/or fire behavior,” according to the National Weather Service.

There’s a 20% chance of showers in the region today as the weather system moves out. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s are in the forecast for the weekend.
