A short heat wave this week could push temperatures above 100 degrees by Thursday in the valleys surrounding Glendale and Pasadena, according to the National Weather Service.

Even today, daytime highs could hit the mid-90s as a high pressure system builds over the region, the weather service said. On Wednesday, expect highs of 100 degrees in the Burbank-Glendale area, and up to 102 on Thursday,

Conditions should be slightly cooler in the Pasadena region, with daytime highs not expected to get past the high-90s, according to the weather service.

On Friday, the heat wave is expected to subside as a cooling trend takes hold, bringing temperatures back down by 10 degrees or more heading into the weekend.
