John Krikorian, the publisher of Business Life magazine, has regained consciousness and is in stable condition after collapsing of an apparent heart attack earlier today at a Fire Department awards ceremony.

Krikorian, the father of Glendale school board member Greg Krikorian, remains under watch at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, were he was rushed after suffering a likely heart attack while accepting an award on stage at the Hilton Glendale.

“This is a step in the right direction,” Glendale Fire Battalion Chief Greg Godfrey said.

He credited the swift action of firefighter-paramedics and the close proximity to Glendale Adventist, which has a specialized heart trauma center, for the positive outcome.

Firefighters rushed in to catch John Krikorian as he fell back from the podium. As the audience moved out of the event hall, paramedics performed emergency CPR as he was transported to the hospital, where the medical staff was waiting, Godfrey said.

“Every second counts in trying to bring [the heart] back,” he said.
