Glendale supports community clean-up
Being a part of a community means helping to keep it tidy. That’s why a Foothill Clean-up Day, Glendale’s official “Make a Difference Day” project, was from 9 a.m. to Noon on Oct. 22 at Dunsmore Park, 4700 Dunsmore Ave. Students, families, service organizations, and businesses can make a difference by reducing the litter that gets swept into storm drains. Glendale High School
Moyse Stadium was the site of Saturday’s first GHS PTSA-hosted Marching Band competition. Nine bands from southern California, including Hoover and Crescenta Valley, competed from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wilson Middle School
A lot can happen within a century and Wilson celebrated its 100th birthday with the community on Oct. 22 from noon to 3 p.m. The school held an Open House for students, alumni and community members with exhibits and a film documenting Wilson’s 100 years. There were opportunities for visitors to join the PTSA and support the school by purchasing a Lexus Car Wash Ticket for $15. All of the car wash proceeds — that’s 100% — went directly to the school.
Verdugo Woodlands Elementary
Grab your sombrero says Celeste Chong-Cerrillo, restaurant fundraiser Chair, for another PTA restaurant fundraiser Oct. 26 at Joselito’s Mexican Restaurant, 2345 Honolulu Ave., in Montrose. For reservations call (818) 957-1901. Joselito’s will donate 15% of your check to the Verdugo Woodlands PTA for student programs, activities and supplies. The fundraiser is for dinner only from 5 to 10 p.m. and applies to both eat-in dining or take-out orders.
Principal Janet Buhl reminds parents that they may park their cars for free every morning and walk with their child to school. Enter from the Colina Street gate. Free parking is available to Verdugo Woodlands families at the First Congregational Church of Glendale, 2001 Cañada Blvd.
The annual Fall Festival is Nov. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. says Kelly Anderson, Fall Festival chair. Admission is free and there will be games, prizes, a food court, rock wall, guest DJ, and more. Bring your friends and family!
Save the date for Dec. 8 when the Verdugo Woodlands’ book fair happens at Barnes & Noble at the Americana at Brand. Shop from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and a percentage of purchases will benefit the school.
