Glendale-based importer recalls Canadian cheese

Share

Glendale-based Kradjian Importing Co. is recalling 231 cases of cheese because the products may be contaminated with listeria, bacteria that can be fatal to small children or those with weak immune systems.

The recall, posted by the Food and Drug Administration, affects Cedar brand Tresse and Shinglish cheeses made in Canada and delivered before Nov. 13, according to the company. The vacuum-packed cheeses — made by Fromagerie Marie Kade — were distributed to Mediterranean-style specialty markets throughout Southern California.

Kradjian Importing Co. urged customers to return the cheese to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Symptoms of a listeria infection include severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In severe cases, the bacteria can be fatal to small children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.

Customers with questions may call the company at (866) 825-2633 during normal business hours.
