Man arrested for allegedly selling stolen power tools in Burbank

A Los Angeles man was arrested yesterday after allegedly attempting to sell stolen power tools on Craigslist, police said.

Undercover police officers observed Julio Landeros, 24, make what appeared to be a suspicious transaction in the Empire Center on Thursday near Best Buy, Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

Unbeknown to the buyer, the power drill Landeros allegedly sold -- arranged through a Craigslist post -- was stolen, Ryburn said. Landeros was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and on an unrelated warrant.

Detectives reported finding three additional stolen power tools at Landeros’ residence, all brand new and in boxes, Ryburn said. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the drills were stolen from multiple Home Depots in the San Gabriel Valley and valued at about $1,000.

“He stole the tools from Home Depot and resold them on Craigslist for a profit,” Ryburn said.

During November and December, Burbank police conducted four undercover “Holiday Crime Suppression Operations” in the area of the mall, the village and Empire Center. The operations targeted thefts from vehicles during the shopping season.
