Santa Ana winds prompt red flag fire warning in L.A. County

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag fire warning from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday for mountain areas in Los Angeles County because of expected Santa Ana winds.

The warning, which signifies critical brush-fire danger, is for inland and coastal mountain areas and the Santa Clarita Valley, where the dry northeasterly winds are expected to blow up to 40 mph.

The winds, coupled with low relative humidity, could result in explosive fire conditions, the Weather Service said. Light northeasterly winds were beginning to blow Thursday afternoon.
