CV High students to honor memory of friend with metal band shirts

Crescenta Valley High School students plan to don black and heavy metal-themed T-shirts Tuesday in honor of music-loving schoolmate Drew Ferraro, who died on campus Friday in what officials say was an apparent suicide.

“His iPod was huge,” said 15-year-old Jake Miller, adding that his classmate was a big fan of metal bands including Metallica, Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold.

Tuesday will be the first day students are back on campus following the incident -- school was closed today for Presidents’ Day.

Principal Michelle Doll is scheduled to briefly address Drew Ferraro’s death during a public announcement Tuesday, according to Glendale Unified spokesman Steven Frasher.

The 15-year-old student died after apparently jumping from a three-story building during lunch on Friday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident.

Funeral service arrangements are still pending, according to a Crippen Mortuary representative.
