Schiff ditches neutrality, endorses Berman in bitter race

Rep. Howard Berman (D-Valley Village) racked up a major endorsement in the form of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) in his bruising battle with Rep. Brad Sherman for a newly drawn San Fernando Valley congressional district seat.

Schiff’s break from neutrality in the race between two Democrats follows a similar decision by Sen. Barbara Boxer last month.

In a statement announcing the endorsement today, Schiff cited Berman’s “wisdom, experience and tireless advocacy.”

“He is a proven leader on foreign policy and job creation, and I know that he’s absolutely the right choice for residents of Burbank and the surrounding communities,” Schiff said.

Boxer sided with Berman in February, citing what she said was the negative tone taken by Sherman’s campaign.
