Mary Genevieve Cadmus died on 23 March 2012 in Walnut Creek, Calif. Mary Genevieve Bastean was born on 28 July 1918 on a farm near Old Monroe, Mo. After graduating from Troy High School and working in the office of the prosecuting attorney of Lincoln County, she served as a member of the Women’s Army Corps from 1942 to 1945 with VIII Bomber Command in Buckinghamshire. After the war she worked as a secretary in Hollywood at Pacific Western Investment and Insurance Company where she met her husband John Sherman Hill who died in 1979. Influential in church and civic affairs in Burbank and beyond, she was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Burbank Coordinating Council, La Providencia Guild of Children’s Hospital, Women’s Overseas Service League, and president of La Cadeña Women’s Club and the Parent Teacher Associations of William McKinley Elementary School, David Starr Jordan Junior High School, and John Burroughs Senior High School. She was also a member of the Lady Duffers of De Bell Municipal Golf Club. In 1982 she married another long-time Burbank resident and golfer, Keith Barnett Cadmus, who died in 1986. Mrs. Cadmus is survived by three sons ¿ Eric Hill, founder and president of Honolulu Realty, Inc.; Brian Hill of New York, long employed by and now retired from the Music Department of Oxford University Press in New York; and Jeff Hill of Oakland, Calif., a retired captain and first mate with Matson Navigation Company ¿ and a granddaughter, Megan Lynn Smith of San Francisco. She is also survived by four stepchildren: Carole Cadmus Robinson of Soulsbyville, Calif., James Cadmus of Bishop, Calif., John Cadmus of Menifee, Calif., and Christopher Cadmus of Wellington, Nev.
