Johnson, Rebs fall short

Mayfield 9, Flintridge Prep 8: Chelsea Johnson nearly led the Rebels to a Prep League victory on the road Wednesday.

Johnson went two for three with a home run, four runs batted in, three runs scored and three stolen bases for Flintridge Prep, which also had Rachel Simon go two for three with two RBI.

The Rebels dropped to 2-14, 2-7 in league.

Hoover 12, Muir 0 (five innings): Kaitlyn Williams, Sarah Hill and Melissa Garcia each had run-scoring hits in the first inning to lift the visiting Tornadoes to a Pacific League road win Wednesday.

Hoover pitcher Briana Manzanero earned the win, scattering two hits to help the Tornadoes improve to 8-12, 4-7 in league with three league games remaining.

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis in Mission League Individual Tournament: Johnny Brandt of St. Francis recorded an even-par 72 in the event Wednesday at Wilson-Harding Golf Course at Griffith Park.

Brandt finished with a two-round score of 150 and missed the final qualifying spot for the CIF Southern Section Individual Tournament by one stroke.

The top nine advanced to the postseason.

St. Francis finished sixth in the league final Monday in Lakewood.
