An 18-year-old Montrose woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after losing control of her car and crashing into a light pole on Canada Boulevard, officials said.

The woman, Teri Haggar, was driving south about 9:30 p.m. on the 2900 block of Canada Boulevard when she decided to pass a slower car, according to Glendale police reports.

She lost control on a turn at speeds of up to 70 mph, went into the bike lane and struck a light pole and tree, according to police.

Her car overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof, officials said. Two passengers inside the car were able to crawl out into the street, but Haggar remained trapped. Firefighters cut Haggar out of her car and transported all three to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Haggar told police that she usually drives fast and didn’t “know what happened,” according to an incident report.

Haggar allegedly told police that she and her friends had been drinking alcohol earlier that day. She also allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana and to having alcohol in the car when she crashed, according to police.

She was being held Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
