Three motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol Friday during a checkpoint in North Glendale, police said.

Of the 588 vehicles processed through the grant-funded checkpoint at Pennsylvania Avenue and Montrose Avenue, 20 field sobriety tests were administered, resulting in the arrests, according to Glendale police.

Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while a third motorist was arrested in connection with driving under the influence of drugs, according to police. One vehicle was towed during the checkpoint.

Another three people were arrested for alleged narcotics-related offenses, police said.

Police arrested 418 motorists for drunk driving during the first four months of this year — 185 more than for the same period last year, according to the Police Department.
