Toddler, mother injured by wayward driver on residential street

A 3-year-old boy on Monday suffered a broken ankle in Glendale when an elderly driver lost control of her vehicle, striking the boy and his mother, police said.

The motorist, whose identity and exact age were not immediately released, was exiting a driveway on Patterson Avenue just after 4 p.m. when she struck the front of another vehicle driving east on the same street.

The driver then accelerated, lost control of her vehicle and struck the woman’s parked car just as a she was removing her 3-year-old from the rear seat.

As a result of the crash, the woman and her son were pinned in against the vehicle, police said.

They were taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Centerfor treatment, with the mother complaining of pain to her chest and back and cuts to her face, police said.
