Inert grenade found in Glendale home prompts brief evacuation

Share

Police temporarily evacuated three homes on Sonora Avenue Wednesday after a worker found what turned out to be an inert grenade in a home’s storage area, officials said.

The worker discovered the hand grenade with its pin intact about 1: 45 p.m. and moved it to the front of the home in the 1300 block of Sonora Avenue, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Northbound traffic on Sonora was closed between Kenneth Road and Bel Aire Drive as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s bomb squad was brought in to investigate, he added.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes about 3:45 p.m. after the grenade was determined to be inert.
