Man arrested outside Glendale homeless shelter after fight

Share

A fight outside the temporary winter homeless shelter in Glendale resulted in one man being arrested on suspicion of battery, police said.

Witnesses said the man, Jorge Tanchez, was trying to fight people who were waiting in line to enter the winter shelter at the Glendale National Guard Armory in the 200 block of East Colorado Street, according to police.

When another man told him to stop bothering them, police said Tanchez punched the man in his left eye.

Officers were in the neighborhood patrolling when a staffer from the shelter notified them of the fight.

As police tried to grab Tanchez, he allegedly grabbed one of the officer’s arms and was preparing to swing, but stopped when he realized who it was.
