A 44-year-old man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he sexually abused his ex-girlfriend’s daughter for years in their Glendale home, police said.

Jose Ricardo Yanez of Eagle Rock was charged with four felony counts of lewd acts on a child, aggravated sexual assault of a child, attempted sodomy by force and oral copulation on a child, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint.

The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force conducted surveillance on Yanez, who was arrested Tuesday in the 2600 block of Saxon Drive in connection with the charges, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The girl, now 18, allegedly suffered the sexual abuse from 2003 to 2007 when she was between the ages of 8 and 12 in their home in the 800 block of North Adams Street.

She recently reported the abuse to police because she learned that Yanez may have been living with someone who had young children, Lorenz added.

“She didn’t want anyone to suffer what she went through,” he said.

Detectives, Lorenz said, investigated the case and were able to corroborate the girl’s statements with evidence.

Yanez, who was unemployed at the time the abuse allegedly occurred, reportedly dated the girl’s mother for many years.

The alleged abuse allegedly took place when the girl’s mother was at work, according to Lorenz.

“The sexual assaults progressed over a period of time,” he said.

After the alleged assaults — which the girl’s mother was never made aware of — the girl and her mother moved to Eagle Rock and Yanez moved to Burbank, according to police.

He later returned to Eagle Rock but was not living with the girl and her mother, Lorenz said.

Yanez is scheduled to appear March 29 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Burbank.
