Two Glendale men were arrested late Friday after they allegedly burglarized a home and tried to flee, prompting police to lock down a neighborhood.

Gagik Manukyan, 38, and Ararat Babakhanian, 44, were taken into custody at about 11:30 p.m. on suspicion of burglary in the 1200 block of Moncado Drive and Ethel Street in the Rossmoyne district, according to Glendale police.

Witnesses reported a white Mercedes-Benz sedan with paper license plates roaming the Ethel Street neighborhood, and also noticed activity in a home that was supposed to vacant, police said.

The home was ransacked and the rear door had been pried open, police said.

After officers arrived in the neighborhood, they set up a perimeter and noticed Manukyan exiting the home, police said.

Officers asked him to show his hands, but he allegedly ran away, entered several back yards and then was eventually caught as he tried to jump over a fence.

An officer discovered Babakhanian hiding in the back seat of the Mercedes, police said.

An evidence search team found jewelry scattered through the backyards, police said.

The lockdown lasted for approximately an hour and 20 minutes.
